Do writers search for the perfect place to write in?
Or am I the only one who does that?
Really, I feel like I'm on a hunt.
Searching for the perfect nook, where ideas can fly, my fingers can type, and words can finally be written on a page.
Is it a particular chair?
Do I need particular music?
Do I need something on tv?
Do I need to sit on the floor?
Is this room better than that room?
Surely this place will be perfect!
That sort of thing?
In any case.
I do feel the need for that.
A need to find a space that I could officially call a writing corner and write in. Happily, no distractions, nothing to pull me away from the story.
A spot where I feel like I can just relax, and write, without having to worry about anything else.
I may have found it today.
Unfortunately....it's not nearby.
You see, my parentals have been doing a bit of a fix-it-up around the house the past week or so, which happened to involve a patio getting a roof.
Said patio hasn't had a roof since I was in elementary school it feels like. It actually collapsed one winter after a rather heavy snow fall. (It was an old roof, and not as well made as it could have been.)
And it, at that time, was much easier to tear the whole thing down -since it was rather unstable- than to try and shore it back up and make it work, or replace it.
Which meant an end to spending time back there as kids for family parties and such.
But this year, the parents (particularly my mom.) decided to fix that.
And so, they hired some people to build a roof for the patio.
And today, for the first, time, I was able to hang out on said patio with a nice well built roof over my head. ^^;;
It's still a work in progress. Like we don't have furniture out there yet,
But really. It has a lot of potential now.
Chairs for family gatherings.
Shelter from the weather.
It felt...so peaceful.
Especially since it began to rain.
And there I was outside.
And the rain wasn't hitting me.
I could listen to the pitter-patter on the roof, above me, while staying nice and dry.
And I had this thought.
If I had a nice lounging chair to sit in. A place where I could comfortably sit and put my feet up out here.
This...this could be perfect.
I could enjoy the weather, be outside, but still find it pleasant to write outside in.
As really, that's where I crave to go when I write. An outside spot. Some place where I can hear nature.
But then weather, a lack of a good seat and the general brightness of the sun on white pages and computer screens...makes that difficult.
The Patio however....that could work.
This could work.
Once the furniture is out there, I will have to try this idea out and see if it actually works.....
And then a mosquito bit me. >.<
lol.
But really, I want to give this a try, see if the patio could be a good writing nook for when I go home to visit the parents. ^^;;

How Often?
I was asked today by a friend; "How often do you write."
I had to clarify the question. "Write my stories? or just write in general?"
They basically responded back with the 'write in general.'
How often do I write?
Well....everyday.
How often do I take pen to paper?
Everyday.
How often do I put words on the internet?
Everyday.
I may not be writing what I want to write. Stories. Plotlines. Characters.
But I am writing.
I'm journaling, chronicling my own story via a notebook journal and my other blog posts, the events that happen to me and thoughts that come to mind.
Which actually made me a bit happy.
I am writing.
That's what matters.
I'm taking time to put words on a page.
:) At least I've mastered that.
Now to master actually getting stories down on the page from my head. :) lol

A Story's Origins
It's rather interesting the paths that your mind takes when writing.
Some stories' beginnings are so different from where the story ends up in the end.
To the point where you can't really tell how your thought process got from point a to point d. You just know it started there and ended up over here.
For example.
I was playing around with an image I'd seen at work, where a hamster had been slowly loosing his hair (plucking it after a while.) And me wanting to do a story based on this image.
So I played around with it.
At one point going along the lines of 'What if it was a more humanistic hamster?'
After that point? I have no idea what sparked what...
But now the story has morphed to a more 'survival of the fittest' type of story.
Where an individual is placed in a 'gladiator pits' of sorts and has to survive, and ends up doing just that, through an unexpected means. (possibly the story was influenced a bit by Danny Phantom as I've been watching it recently.)
But how I got from 'Hamster...to 'human fighting for life..." Not quite positive. O.o
It's strange.
And if this story ever becomes an actual published book.....
My readers are probably not going to be satisfied with this answer. lol.
But really, thoughts just kinda...jump all over the place for me. Seeing something can spark something else without me always realizing (or remembering) that this is what sparked it.

Writing Problems
Dilemma.
Been working on a story idea right.
Had a dream last night.
Similar concept -two guys/bestfriends/onegetsjealousoftheother...
But the main background story and 'powers' of these two are different than the one I'm currently working on.
Sooo do I somehow fold this new concept into the current concept....
Or create it as it's own story?
>.<

Handedness?
One of the more annoying things about writing characters....
Is when a scene comes up, and I realize....that I have to decide their handedness.
Is this a character a lefty?
or a righty?
For most, it probably wouldn't be a difficult decision. Right handed. Because, after all, most of the world is right handed.
But for me. It's different.
Because I'm a lefty.
So almost automatically, my characters become left handed as well, because that's how I picture things. It's what I'm used to.
It probably wouldn't be a problem, really.
But I do make the effort to try and branch and have some right handed characters.
Sometimes it's not that difficult of a decision, because some character's that come to mind, come to mind already right handed. It's a strong stamp to their personality. "I'm Right Handed!"
*Salutes* Okay!
But others....
When I image scenes.
I don't always pay attention to what hand they're using.
And so...sometimes they're left handed, sometimes they're right, as I imagine different scenarios.
At least for my current story and current main character.
The handedness was rather easy. He's a Righty.
No, for this current character it's a 'which foot is my dominate foot.' sort of problem.
You'd think that would be Right.
But he keeps thinking Left.
And I'm like. O.o That can't work!
Of course it can, but it's one of those quirks, that I'm not sure I like yet.
For you see, this particular character has a broken leg. So his foot is in a cast.
But which foot?
It keeps switching.
At first I had it as the right foot.
But then I keep imagining it on the left.
>.<
Ah, the joys of being a writer. ;)

Need. More. Shows.
Sometimes it's rather scary when you realize how much things from your childhood can influence your writing.
I'm not talking about memories, and things that have happened to yourself. (though that can also apply to a writer)
But instead, about TV shows you've seen, books you've read.
It's crazy.
I've been rewatching one of my favorite TV series from when I was younger, Danny Phantom.
And I've realized that a lot of different aspects of this show....
Can be found in some of my different stories. Old and new.
Of course these aspects could be used in multiple different settings. You know...stereotypes, tropes...etc.
But I do have to wonder.
Was this 'idea' I had, just a memory of this one scene from that one episode of Danny Phantom?
Or...did it just so happen that I came up with a similar concept?
Who knows.
But I do know, that old TV shows can certainly be a source of inspiration! :D
