The Fish

Gotta love it when coworkers misunderstand me lol.

So me and my coworker were at the fish wall.
I was working on cleaning the tanks,
while they were working on counting the fish.

And my coworker noticed that a fish wasn't doing too well.
-Fins had been chewed away.
-It happens in some of our more aggressive tanks where one fish becomes an aggressor to everyone else.

And my coworker was like "What do we do with it?"
And I'm pretty sure that I said something along the lines of "If it's alive, go isolate it, if it's dead toss it."
-As we have a tank where we can place injured/sick fish until they get better.

But for some reason, all my coworker heard was "Toss it."
O.o
So I watched him scoop out the fish and go to the trash can and toss it in.
And I was like "Was it dead?"
"No."
"Then why did you throw it away?"
"Didn't you say to toss it!"
"No, I said to isolate it!"

lol
Which cued a frantic dash to get a cup of water and go rescue the poor fish from the trash.
Luckily it survived that so it could go be placed in the iso tank.

lol *shakes head*
Still not sure why he thought I'd actually say to throw a live fish away.
We must have both been tired or something.

Taking out the Trash

I actually do believe it's the stocker's job.
Once they're done restocking the shelves with product.
It's their job to take out the trash that has accumulated in the store.
As most of the time it is their stocking boxes that take up most of the trash.

Of course, there are bags of trash from the groomers and my dept and the vet, from customers throughout the day....

So, in a way.
It does make a bit of sense that everyone in the store should take turns taking out the trash to the dumpsters out back once you think about it.

If only that were the case.

Today, Roti, the new manager, asked me and my coworker to be the ones to take out the trash.
As he wants to 'spread the work around.'
So he's planning to apparently make it so not the just the stockers are taking out the trash.

Though I have to wonder if he's truly going to spread the work around.
Will he make the groomers take out the trash one day? The vet people? The cashiers?
Or is 'spreading the work' just giving me and my dept more to do?

Who knows.
I'm guessing it's going to be the latter rather than the former.

In any case.
While I didn't mind helping out and taking out the trash.
-As I do see the logic in having everyone take their turn.
What I didn't comprehend was the fact that Roti chose the only two girls in the store. (who weren't groomers) to do the task of taking out the trash.
There were plenty of guys around (stockers) to lift the heavy bags and break down boxes and such.
Yet the two girls had to do the heavy task.
*shakes head*

I don't understand guys logic sometimes.

Tossed on the Ground

I was pulling out of work, ready to head home.
And I looked towards the front of the store.
Where I could see a customer putting stuff in his car.
His wife sitting in the passenger seat, waiting for him to finish up.

I wasn't going to think much of it.
Except this white-haired gentleman.

Took an empty cardboard box.
Which he'd been using to carry whatever he'd bought.
And he just tossed it on the ground.
On the wide sidewalk path leading up to the front doors of the store.
Just threw the box there.
Didn't even make an effort to walk the six feet to the garbage can on the other side of the store to place it there.
He just tossed it on the ground by his car.
And then left.

Oooooo
It irritated me.
I mean....
Seriously?!
The old man should know well enough to Not. Litter.
To not expect his mother to come up behind him and clean up his mess.
Why in the world would he just do that?
-He's probably using the excuse he's 'old and can't get around as easily.'
But really?
Really?

Take responsibility and throw away your trash!!

MLAARE -Trashed Again

I guess it's a good thing I came into work later than usual for my first evening shift in a long while.

As, I checked in with my morning opener before they left for the day.
Asking how the Bedding Changes went and such.
And commented that a cage that I knew to be empty was missing a sign.

To which my coworker acknowledged and then pointed out that there was another cage that had been empty when they went to clean it out.
The Corn Snake Cage.

Alarm bells rang in my head.
The Corn Snake cage was empty?!
That could not be right.
As I'd counted all our animals the day before.
And guess what?
The corn snake had been in there.

Of course it could have been that the snake was sold between then and now.
So I double checked in inventory.
Guess what?
The snake still showed in our system.
which meant.
It was still in the store.

But my coworker swore up and down and left to right that there was no snake in the bedding when they'd cleaned out that cage. They'd gone through it very carefully to ensure that it was not there.
But maybe the other opener had cleaned the cage and the second hadn't realized it.
I seriously doubted that.
I had more trust in the first opener than the second...

And considering that we'd already had had one snake tossed away a couple of months ago.
I wasn't going to dismiss the thought that it too had ended up in the garbage.

Considering that the snake was basically the same color as the bedding it burrowed in.
It was more than likely.
Considering that I know how 'carefully' this coworker goes through things....it was more than more than likely. Their 'careful' isn't very careful.

So I tracked down the garbage bag.
Thankfully this time it hadn't ended up yet in the dumpster, hadn't yet been taken by the garbage truck.

So I was able to pull it out and open it.
And dig through the bedding.
Within like 4 handfuls of bedding.

There it was.

The snake.
Alive and well.

*sighs of relief*

Back into his cage he went.

I'm pretty sure that the one coworker did toss the snake in the trash -total accident of course- as my other opener, I later talked to said they hadn't done the cage cleaning for those cages.

Oh well.
Mistakes happen.
At least this time around we were able to save the snake. :S

MLAARE -A Smelly Entryway

There is one disgusting thing I hate about working in a petstore that allows people to bring their pets into the store with them.

The messes.

The messes that the animals make.
And the owners do not clean up.

>.<
Seriously?
Do you think I want to clean up after your pet?
No.
No I do not.

I mean, going out in the grass outside is one thing.
I hardly care if you don't pick up after your pet then.
But in the Store?!

And you just act like nothing has happened, or expect us to clean it up for you?
>.<
Totally a peeve of mine.
Understandable if a pet parent is distracted enough that they don't notice.
But when they see it, and try to avoid cleaning up after themselves.
That's when it gets annoying.

Today for example.
I happened to be walking up to the front of the store.
And noticed lumps in the entry way of our store.
Lots and lots of lumps.
A doggies unfortunate gift.
Bleh!
And it wasn't in just one convenient spot.
Oh no.
This trail of 'gifts'
Was like 10 feet long.
From the beginning of the sidewalk to a couple of feet past the main door.
Seriously!
I don't know if the dog was coming or going.
But it was disgusting!
Starting out semi solid, but becoming a liquid mess really really quickly.

And no Dog or Owner in sight to clean up the mess!
I mean, how inconsiderate could you be!

Would you stand for it if someone brought their dog into your work place or your home, let them go willy nilly wherever they wanted to, and leave you to clean up afterwards? No.
Seriously.
Is it so hard to comprehend "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you?"
It's not.
I mean, it was in the ENTRY WAY.
Where people could easily step into it.
(I didn't get there in time before one lady actually did, but managed to keep others from getting their feet in the mess.)
Honestly. Honestly?! Leave without cleaning up!?
Gah!
It was disgusting.
It was time consuming.
And oh. So. Smelly.

>.<
Some people.
If you bring your pet to the store...CLEAN UP AFTER IT!

MRS -Garbage

Sometimes I wonder at my roommate's logic.
I mean, placing a full garbage bag, on our couch...
Where's the logic in that?
Sure, it's a nice big obvious sign that someone needs to take the garbage out.
But if it just sits there.
What then?
We get a smelly couch.
If the bag has a leak (I sure hope it doesn't) Then we have a smelly, stinky, sticky, messy couch.

Surely, you would make it just as obvious that the garbage needs to go out by placing it on floor in plain sight.
No need to smellyfie our furniture just to make a point that, yes, the garbage does need to be taken out.

>.<
