So there I was, at Barnes and Noble, pursuing through the books to see if any would catch my fancy tonight.
When I saw a woman a set of books in hand, march up to the help desk and ask.
"Are these books all the same?"
At first glance, it did appear that they were all the same. For every book she laid out on the desk had the words "I am Number Four" in large print on the side.
But, I doubted that they were all the same just from that glance, mostly because books don't always print out multiple covers for one book. That would be confusing for sure.
The girl at the help desk agreed with me. "They are the same in that they're all part of the same series." She said trying to be helpful. -I don't think she'd read them, as I could hear that "you can't expect me to know everything' tone in her voice -very faint, only one who's worked in a similar job can hear it."
I missed the next part of the conversation as I got distracted by a book,
but then I heard the woman say "Well, let's just read the first page of each book and see if they're the same or not."
And I felt like hitting my head. Really? Why didn't you consider that in the first place?
Though, I think she was trying to prove a point. Perhaps she already had done this and found them to be the same, hence her confusion.
A little while later I heard the girl say "Well this one is 'extended files'"
"What does that mean?"
"Well, it's like...a companion guide to the main series, I think this isn't part of that series, but it probably contains short stories and such that relate to the book."
And finally it was established which books she needed....for who knew who.
So the woman put back the books, and I slid by to see.
Yes.
They all said "I AM NUMBER FOUR" on them, but below the big print was smaller print. "Hidden Secrets." "Extended Files."
And I just had to wonder.....why that wasn't obvious to the woman that the books were different.....If there's a slight variation in the title...that means it's a different book.
*shakes head*

What's In A Name?
Names have power.
And when it comes to first exposure of a name,
the person who had it first.... can set a mental image in mind that's hard to shake.
If a person is named 'this' then certainly they will all act like the first person you met with 'this' name would act.
You see, I had a dream last night.
About a guy who was chasing me around with a fork lift.
And his name happened to be Brady.
Now, I've known a few Brady's in my life.
But for some reason it's always struck me as a 'bully' name.
Why?
Because in Elementary school, there was a blonde haired guy in my class named Brady.
He was one of those kids who was bigger than all the others.
Not that he was mean or anything, he just had that type of attitude.
The 'I'm better than you so move out of my way.' sort of attitude.
What I remember most about him was that he was climbing up a metal ladder on the playground (because we had metal big toys back then.) And I was right behind him, when he stepped on my hand.
Total accident really, though I didn't think so at the time.
I guess it kinda cemented in my mind then, that he was a bully, someone to be avoided.
Mostly because I'm the sort of person where I was like "He hurt me, so I don't want to be near him and get hurt again."
But yah, from that point forward, the name Brady...can conjure up that image. Not quite the Elementary kid, as I've known other Brady's after that point, easy going fellows, still popular with the girls, nice....
In any case. It's made me think this morning.
If Brady makes me think of a kid who has the potential to be a bully.
What other people in my life have influenced how I view a name and the personality behind it?

Writing
Huh.
I may have stumbled onto something.
An idea may stay in my thoughts, distracting me from what I actually want to work on,
But then, once I write it down,
the Idea goes silent,
and I'm able to take my attention back to the story at hand.
Hmmm I may need to try this more often to see if it actually works, or if its a one time thing...

Word Mash
Sometimes it's fun to mash words together to create a new word.
Really, I'm considering doing that in my books.
As in some cases they're fun to say.
like Stephen Amell came up with the word "Sinceriously"
(Sincere and Seriously)
And it's caught fire in the Arrow fan world.
Then today, someone in Sunday School said
"Inspirmation"
(Inspiration and Information)
And again I thought it was cool.
^^
Basically, creating your own words is awesome!
I need to do so more frequently. ^^

Mourning
I feel like I've spent the last hour or so bawling my eyes out.
Not because anything is wrong with me, I'm not hurt, I'm not scared, I'm not any of the reasons that would make me cry like there is no tomorrow.
No.
It's because I've been writing.
And it's the character who's in mourning.
It's the character who has been traumatized,
Broken.
Beaten.
Lost.
She's in emotional distress due to events in the story I'm working on with her.
And I can't help but empathize.
The loss.
So acute.
What they had defined themselves as.
Gone.
It's heart breaking.
And she's finding no comfort at the moment.
Making it difficult for the rays of sunshine to come through.
So for now,
I sit with tears running down my cheeks.
Trying to convince her that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
She just needs to look up to see it....

The Write Spot
Do writers search for the perfect place to write in?
Or am I the only one who does that?
Really, I feel like I'm on a hunt.
Searching for the perfect nook, where ideas can fly, my fingers can type, and words can finally be written on a page.
Is it a particular chair?
Do I need particular music?
Do I need something on tv?
Do I need to sit on the floor?
Is this room better than that room?
Surely this place will be perfect!
That sort of thing?
In any case.
I do feel the need for that.
A need to find a space that I could officially call a writing corner and write in. Happily, no distractions, nothing to pull me away from the story.
A spot where I feel like I can just relax, and write, without having to worry about anything else.
I may have found it today.
Unfortunately....it's not nearby.
You see, my parentals have been doing a bit of a fix-it-up around the house the past week or so, which happened to involve a patio getting a roof.
Said patio hasn't had a roof since I was in elementary school it feels like. It actually collapsed one winter after a rather heavy snow fall. (It was an old roof, and not as well made as it could have been.)
And it, at that time, was much easier to tear the whole thing down -since it was rather unstable- than to try and shore it back up and make it work, or replace it.
Which meant an end to spending time back there as kids for family parties and such.
But this year, the parents (particularly my mom.) decided to fix that.
And so, they hired some people to build a roof for the patio.
And today, for the first, time, I was able to hang out on said patio with a nice well built roof over my head. ^^;;
It's still a work in progress. Like we don't have furniture out there yet,
But really. It has a lot of potential now.
Chairs for family gatherings.
Shelter from the weather.
It felt...so peaceful.
Especially since it began to rain.
And there I was outside.
And the rain wasn't hitting me.
I could listen to the pitter-patter on the roof, above me, while staying nice and dry.
And I had this thought.
If I had a nice lounging chair to sit in. A place where I could comfortably sit and put my feet up out here.
This...this could be perfect.
I could enjoy the weather, be outside, but still find it pleasant to write outside in.
As really, that's where I crave to go when I write. An outside spot. Some place where I can hear nature.
But then weather, a lack of a good seat and the general brightness of the sun on white pages and computer screens...makes that difficult.
The Patio however....that could work.
This could work.
Once the furniture is out there, I will have to try this idea out and see if it actually works.....
And then a mosquito bit me. >.<
lol.
But really, I want to give this a try, see if the patio could be a good writing nook for when I go home to visit the parents. ^^;;

How Often?
I was asked today by a friend; "How often do you write."
I had to clarify the question. "Write my stories? or just write in general?"
They basically responded back with the 'write in general.'
How often do I write?
Well....everyday.
How often do I take pen to paper?
Everyday.
How often do I put words on the internet?
Everyday.
I may not be writing what I want to write. Stories. Plotlines. Characters.
But I am writing.
I'm journaling, chronicling my own story via a notebook journal and my other blog posts, the events that happen to me and thoughts that come to mind.
Which actually made me a bit happy.
I am writing.
That's what matters.
I'm taking time to put words on a page.
:) At least I've mastered that.
Now to master actually getting stories down on the page from my head. :) lol
