Not Engraved

So, in our store. We have an engraving machine.
Where people can engrave tags for their pets. You know, the tags that have the pet's name and the owner's information on them.

In any case,
I happened to be walking by the registers near where the engraving machine is.
And a woman comes up to me holding out her tag, saying that it didn't work.
She'd placed the tag in the machine and it hadn't engraved anything.

O.o
My guess was that something had gone wrong, either the customer had pressed the wrong button or something.

So I went over to the tag machine with her.
And scanned in the barcode, put in the code for the tag, and then the pet's name and owner information.
When the hatch to place the tag in unlocked,
I opened it up,
And placed the tag on the small little hook there.
-As you need to have it on the hook in order for the machine to be able to hold onto the tag, draw it back into the engraving part of the machine, and engrave.

Apparently.
Placing the tag on the hook....
Is the step that the customer missed.

She'd just tossed the tag into the open area where the hook is.
-As when the machine is done engraving, it drops the tag and it falls into a slot for you to pick up.
Like you would do for any candy machine.

So...by tossing the tag in....
It just fell to the slot.
So when the engraving was supposed to start....there was no tag on the hook for the machine to engrave.
*shakes head*

I'm not sure how she didn't realize it...the machine is pretty clear in stating how to use it and where to place the tag.... *shakes head*

In any case.
It wouldn't have been anything notable to write about....
Except.

Not even an hour later.
Another woman came up to me.
Complaining of the same problem.
Her tag hadn't engraved.

O.o
So I went through the same process with her too.

She didn't state that she'd just tossed the tag into the slot and not placed it on the hook.
But I halfway got the feeling that that was the case.
I mean...how else would the tag not engrave?
Perhaps if she'd hit cancel instead of continue.......

Still.
It's weird that two customers within the same hour had the same problem.
Especially because I went over the process of engraving the tag with the customers both times, and the engraving worked then....

So weird.
