MLAARE -Shaving Off Time

I was scheduled to come into work an hour later than usual.
Mostly because a different person made the schedule this week.

Technically they were in the right.
As whoever is in charge of deciding how many hours each department gets....obviously has never worked a day in their lives in a store as large as mine.
Because they believe that in reality, we only need to come in to work an hour before we open.
That we can help customers and task at the same time and not have either side suffer.
Ha.

You know what makes it easier to help customers?
Undivided attention.

You can't give a customer your full attention.
If you're constantly worrying in the back of your mind about all the other tasks you  need to get done to ensure the animals are happy, healthy, and in clean cages?

Not very good customer service.

So in reality.
They should give us our morning hours back.
So we can be fully opened by the time the customers walk through the door.

They get our undivided attention.
We give good customer service.
We get our jobs done.
Everyone ends up happy.

Common sense.
For the greedy greedys.
Its not so common.
more money = less hours = more multitasking.
Oh that makes so much sense.
Make your employees stress out. That's good for business.

In any case.
My store so far has been avoiding that new policy.
Working out things so that we can come into the store earlier, to get our tasks done earlier so that we have more time to help customers when we're opened.

Because really.
It sucks to have to still be opening when customers come into the store.

And I really didn't want that to happen.
So when I came in, with an hour less time than normal to get the department up and running,
I was on a mission.
To get the bedding change done as close to opening as possible.
Which considering that its usually a 3 1/2 hour bedding change.
And I only had an hour and a half to get it done in...

Yah.
Not to mention that there was 3 more hours of work to do with other areas of the department.
And that my other coworker came in just an hour before the store opened.

Oh yah.
We were behind.

We got done two hours later than what has become our normal, because of the time change.

But!
I just have to say that I'm amazing.
Because I managed to shave off some time in the bedding change.
Completing it in 2 hours instead of 3 1/2.

Woot!!
